Did you start your home search last year, only to put it on hold?
Maybe nothing you saw truly fit your needs. Or maybe the prices just didn’t work for your budget. According to a recent survey from NerdWallet, those were the two biggest reasons buyers stepped back from the market in 2025.
But right now, the market is shifting in your favor, and it could solve both of those challenges. More homes are continuing to hit the market.
New Listings Are Climbing Fast
Recent data from Realtor.com shows that the number of newly listed homes has nearly doubled compared to just a few months ago. These are brand-new listings, homes sellers are actively bringing to market right now.
That’s a strong increase. And while this time of year always brings more activity, this season’s surge is even more noticeable than usual. As Jake Krimmel, Senior Economist at Realtor.com, explains:
“New listings jumped 21.2% from February to 439,000, a larger-than-typical seasonal surge . . . March typically sees the biggest month-over-month jump in new listings of the entire buying season, averaging an 18% increase since 2017; this year it exceeded 20%.”
More sellers entering the market means one thing: more options for you. If your search felt limited before, it may feel very different today.
More Inventory Means More Opportunity
This trend is happening nationwide, not just in one area. Buyers across the country are seeing more homes become available.
Earlier in the year, some regions lagged due to seasonal slowdowns, but now those areas are catching up, adding even more inventory to the market.
With more “just listed” homes available, your chances of finding something that actually fits your needs, and your budget, are improving.
What This Means for Your Home Search
There are now close to one million homes for sale nationwide, which is more than this time last year.
That kind of growth gives you more flexibility and more choices. As Odeta Kushi, Deputy Chief Economist at First American, explains:
“One of the most encouraging signals heading into the spring home-buying season is the improvement in for-sale inventory levels compared with last year. . . More homes on the market give buyers greater choice and, combined with improved buying power, expand the range of homes they can realistically consider.”
In other words, the market is opening up, and your search doesn’t have to feel as frustrating as it may have before.
